If you have been struggling to create a marketing strategy for your business, settle in, let me share some Christian marketing tips that will put an end to your struggle.

First, what’s a marketing strategy, and why do you need one for your Christian business?

What is a Christian Business Marketing Strategy and Why You Need One for Your Business

A marketing strategy is basically a business’s plan for attracting and retaining customers. When you first start a business, you need a way to let your potential customers know that you exist, and you can solve their problems. This means your marketing strategy should include a way to catch the attention of potential customers, then a method for converting them into sales once you’ve gotten their attention.

Some reasons why you need a marketing strategy include:

  • A marketing strategy helps you to set out your marketing goals and your plan for achieving them
  • It provides clarity for your marketing efforts and a way to assess whether your efforts are effective
  • It helps you create a marketing budget
  • To get to know and understand your customers better

How to Create an Effective Christian Business Marketing Strategy

1. IDENTIFY THE MAIN GOAL OF YOUR MARKETING STRATEGY

Before creating a marketing strategy, take some time to identify your marketing goals. What do you want to achieve?

Depending on what stage you’re in your business, your marketing goals may include brand awareness, which is a plan for letting potential customers know you exist. This is usually one of the main marketing goals of a new business. Before you can convert potential customers into sales, they need to know you exist.

Other marketing goals may include upselling existing customers, and moving warm and qualified customers further down the sales funnel so they can buy from you. Each one of these goals requires a different strategy, so make sure you’re clear on your goals.

2. EVALUATE YOUR CURRENT MARKETING MESSAGE OR CREATE A NEW ONE

Do you have a marketing message for reaching your customers? If you don’t have one, the first thing you need to do is create one. Because you can have the best product or service in the world, but if you don’t know how to sell it, or articulate why your product is the best, your marketing won’t work.

If you don’t know how to craft a powerful and compelling marketing message, read the post below for some helpful tips. The 7 Components of a Brilliant Marketing Message.

For your marketing message to be effective, you must target the right audience. Also, you must ensure your message is clear, and you’re using the right media to get your message across.

As an example, if your potential customers are mostly online (say on social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook), it makes no sense to try to reach them through direct mail or some other form of print media.

To evaluate your marketing message, ask yourself if there’s anything missing from your message, then make the necessary changes so it can become more effective.

Evaluating your marketing message would allow you to see where you’ve been missing the mark and what you can improve. This is a simple but effective way to increase your return on investment on your marketing efforts.

A clear and compelling marketing message is a powerful tool for Christian marketing, so it shouldn’t be overlooked or underestimated.

3. FOCUS ON YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

There are lots of Christian marketing tips you can use to attract customers to your business, but one of the most helpful marketing tips I have learned is to focus on your target audience.

Your target audience is the people who are most likely to respond to your message. When you focus on reaching everyone, you end up diluting your marketing message because you’re not targeting a specific group of people.

Your marketing strategy is going to be more effective when it’s laser-focused. So stop trying to cast a wide net or to reach everyone with a catch-all message. Instead, zero in on the actual people you want to reach, and tailor your message to them. That’s how you create an effective Christian business marketing strategy.

For example, if I hear a message directed at moms, I probably wouldn’t pay too much attention to it because “moms” is pretty generic. However, if I hear a message directed at moms of eleven-year-old girls, that would pique my interest, and I am more likely to listen to what’s being said.

Each day, we are bombarded with lots of messages, and there’s only so much we can take in. So we tend to reserve our interests for things that affect us personally while ignoring the generic messages.

So, take another look at your message, does it target the right people? If not, what changes can you make?

4. KNOW YOUR PRODUCTS, CUSTOMERS, AND COMPETITORS VERY WELL

You can’t create an effective marketing strategy unless you know your products, customers, and competitors inside out.

The reason this is important is that you can’t craft a powerful message unless you know everything there’s to know about your products and customers.

When you know these three things very well, it’s easy to have a clear message. Also, you can easily highlight how your product or service is going to help your customers solve a problem, and articulate what makes your product or service different, or superior to your competition.

As a business owner, it’s important to know not only the features of your products but the benefits. Since a lot of times, it’s the benefits of a product or service that convinces people to buy.

For example, I don’t care how a jacket is made. I don’t care what technology you used to manufacture it. What I want to know is if the jacket or coat can keep me warm in the winter.

Knowing your competitor’s products is also a good idea so you can create your unique selling proposition, and find a way to gain a competitive advantage over them.

So spend some time thinking through what makes your products unique, and why they are the best option for your customers. If you don’t know why your customers should choose you, then it means you don’t know your products very well, or you need to learn more about your customers.

5. BE CONSISTENT AND AVOID A SCATTERSHOT STRATEGY

Consistency is key if you want to see your desired result. You can’t try one strategy this week, another one next week, or stop marketing for weeks and think you can increase your customer base.

There are no shortcuts to success or a magic bullet that will give you the results you desire. The only way is to be consistent with your strategy until you see the changes you want.

I know it’s hard to be consistent when you don’t get results immediately, however slowly but surely, you will start to see some results if you don’t give up. It takes time for any marketing strategy to work, so don’t abandon your strategy after a few weeks. Allow a reasonable time before giving up on a strategy.

Focus on one or two strategies at a time. Don’t try to implement too many strategies at once since that only leads to overwhelm and inconsistency. Many business owners end up abandoning their marketing strategies because they are trying to do too much at once.

So decide where you want to invest your time and effort, and stick with it for a while before you consider moving to something else. It’s better to master one or two strategies than to be mediocre in lots of them.

6. IDENTIFY THE TACTICS OR STRATEGIES AND TOOLS YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

To create a successful Christian marketing campaign, you have to identify the methods and tools you need to achieve your marketing goals. Depending on your marketing goals, your methods or strategies may include:

  • Content marketing
  • Email marketing
  • Paid Advertisement
  • Direct mail
  • Social media marketing (pick one or two platforms where your potential customers are and master them)

Once you’ve identified your strategies, the next step is to identify the marketing tools or resources you need for your marketing campaign. You can’t create an effective marketing strategy if you don’t have the right tools. The tools you need would depend on your strategies.

Some marketing tools include:

  • Surveys
  • Social media platforms
  • Content marketer or virtual assistant
  • A sales page
  • A copywriter for direct mail, sales pages, or other promotional materials
  • Tracking tools
  • Automation tools

There are lots of marketing tools out there, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something that works for your business.

7. YOU NEED A MARKETING BUDGET

Yes, you heard that right.

I am always amazed (well, not really) when I come across bloggers or small business owners without a marketing budget. When I ask them how they plan to reach people, I usually get a blank look or something along the lines of “free marketing.”

Yes, it’s possible to market your business for free. By free, I mean you probably won’t need to spend any money, but boy! Be ready to invest a lot of time if you want to go the free route.

One of the many reasons Christian marketing strategies fail is because of a lack of finances. When you don’t have the money to reach the people who need to hear your message, your campaign is going to fail.

Your budget doesn’t have to be large. If you have an online business or you’re a small business owner, you can tailor your budget to your needs. But, it’s a good idea to set something aside for marketing every month or quarterly.
