Top prayer points for small business owners to help you grow a successful business

What kind of prayers should small business owners pray? Are there specific things you should pray for? How do you pray for your business? As a small business owner, you have probably asked one or more of these questions.

Small business owners face a lot of challenges, and many can’t come up with answers to their problems. However, as Christians, we know we can go to God with our problems and frustrations.

When we need new ideas and direction for our business, we know what to do and where to go for help. There’s no reason why a Christian business owner should ever feel alone or helpless.

In this post, I want to share the top things I believe small business owners should pray about. These prayer points are for business owners who want to grow their businesses and be successful.

Prayers for small businesses is all about focusing on the most important prayer points and knowing how to pray for your needs.

Let’s look at some of these prayer points.

1. PRAYERS FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS BEGINS WITH THANKSGIVING

“Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” (Psalm 107:1)

While entrepreneurship has its ups and downs, I believe it’s a real privilege to own a business.

Owning your own business has a lot of advantages, and it’s something you ought to be thankful for. That’s why prayers for small business owners should start with praise and thanksgiving.

Thank God for the opportunity to run your own business. For his grace and provision through thick and thin. God is good and he is faithful. Let him know you recognize what he is doing in your life and business, and you are grateful for it.

Let’s pray.

“Lord Jesus, I can’t thank you enough for your many blessings. It’s true that my business isn’t always what I’d like it to be, but I am grateful for the privilege and opportunity to live my dream. Thank you for what you have done and will continue to do in and through my business.”

Keep God’s goodness front and center of your mind. Be thankful for all the good things that are happening in your business. Don’t get too focused on the problems or negatives. A heart of gratitude will keep you motivated.

2. PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP YOU STAY FOCUSED

“Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.” (Proverbs 4:25)

One of the challenges of being an entrepreneur is that there’s no shortage of ideas. There’s a tendency for many business owners to jump from one idea to the other. The problem with this approach is that you never stay with one idea long enough for it to be successful.

Jumping into everything that seems like a good idea is not a great way to do business. If you talk to successful business people, they will tell you they were laser-focused on one idea and stayed with it until they became successful.

Staying focused in business is very important for your success. Don’t allow yourself to be distracted by what others are doing or everything that is going on around you. You need a strong focus to execute your vision for your business.

When you are focused, you are proactive and not always reacting to things. If you struggle with staying focused, it’s something you should pray about even as you continue to learn good habits and ways to stay focused.

Of course, it’s also important to stay focused on God while running a business.

Pray with me.

“God, it’s such a struggle to stay focused with so many distractions. I have so many business ideas and things I would like to do, but I can’t stay focused long enough to actually do them! Help me to stay focused on what’s truly important.

To keep my vision front and center of my mind at all times. I don’t want to keep chasing one idea after the other. I want to focus on building a successful business for your glory.”

3. ASK GOD TO HELP YOU BECOME MORE PRODUCTIVE

“The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.” (Proverbs 12:24)

One of my favorite prayers for business owners is to pray for productivity. Successful people are usually very productive people. They know how to maximize time, do a lot of work, and get results.

So what does it mean to be productive, and what should you pray for specifically?

To be productive means you know exactly what you should be doing or working on at any given time. When you are productive, you conserve your energy for things that matter. You don’t expend all your energy chasing after things that yield little or no result.

Finally, being productive means you are efficient. You find the most efficient methods to do things so you can increase your output.

Lots of small business owners are not where they should be because of a lack of productivity. If this is a problem for you, let’s pray.

“Everlasting God, I know I am capable of so much more and I want to tap into my full potential. Help me to become more productive and efficient in the way I run my business. I want to maximize my gifts and make use of all the blessings you have given to me. I ask this in the name of my Lord Jesus.”

4. PRAYERS FOR BUSINESS OWNERS: THAT YOU WILL GET BETTER AT MANAGING YOUR TIME

“We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work.” (John 9:4)

With so many things vying for our attention, procrastination has become a real problem.

How many times have you put off tasks because you were busy with other things or you felt they were too hard? As a small business owner, you really can’t afford to procrastinate or have poor time management (especially if you don’t have any help).

There are lots of things that require your attention as a business owner, so it’s very important that you know how to allocate your time and you are mindful of how you spend your time.

Don’t waste your days on things or activities that won’t move your business forward. If you have something to do, get to it without delay. Use to-do lists, create a priority list, keep a schedule, and limit distractions. These are all viable methods to manage your time.

If you struggle with time management, you are not alone, but you have to deal with it if you want to achieve your goals.

Here is a prayer for you.

“Lord, your word tells me to make the best use of time. To walk as wise and not unwise. I haven’t always heeded this but I am ready to change. I want to manage my time well so I can be more fruitful. Give me the grace and strength to say no when I need to, to tackle hard things without procrastinating.

My days are in your hands Lord and I want to give a good account of myself. Thank you for your mercy.”

5. PRAY FOR THE ABILITY TO MAKE GOOD DECISIONS FOR YOUR BUSINESS

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” (Proverbs 12:24)

As an employee, you probably never had to make a decision that affected the whole company or your employer. That’s not the case when you are a business owner.

Business owners are responsible for making decisions, especially important ones. The buck stops with you.

A bad decision can wipe out your business so you see why it’s so important to have the ability to make good decisions. You need wisdom and critical thinking skills to assess and analyze situations before making decisions.

I know lots of business owners don’t trust their decision-making capabilities, that’s why they tend to delay or put off making decisions.

Whether it’s deciding whom to do business with, what products to sell, or expanding your business, you can’t avoid making decisions. If you hate making decisions, don’t trust your judgment, or want to make better decisions, ask the Lord to help you.

“Jesus, running a business means that I have to make lots of decisions. Some decisions are harder than others and can make or break my business. That’s why I need the wisdom from above. The wisdom that’s pure and true and will help me navigate the affairs of this world.

Give me the ability to make good decisions at all times. To know right from wrong. I pray this in the name of Jesus.

6. ASK GOD TO GRANT YOU A TEACHABLE SPIRIT

“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:9)

Unfortunately, many small business owners allow themselves to fall into a rut. When you are in a rut, you can’t make progress, and the only way to get out of a rut is to acknowledge it and seek guidance.

No matter how long you have been in business, there’s still a lot that you don’t know and there’s always room for improvement.

An entrepreneur who wants to grow and succeed must be humble. You must have a teachable spirit and be willing to learn. You can’t grow if you don’t like learning.

Learning involves a willingness to accept criticism, the ability to see and accept your shortcomings, and a willingness to seek help from those more knowledgeable than you.

Whether it’s working with a Christian business mentor or a Christian business coach, it’s important to seek knowledge especially from those who are more experienced.

A haughty spirit will only delay your blessing and I am sure you don’t want that. So one of my prayers for small business owners is that they will have a love of learning, be humble, and recognize they need others on this journey.

If you already love learning, keep improving and stretching yourself. Make it a goal to learn something new each day. If you would like to develop the habit of learning or you need a teachable spirit, ask God to help you.

Let’s pray.

“Jesus, there’s so much that I don’t know but I am willing to learn. Your word says you resist the proud but give grace to the humble. I need your grace. Grace to acknowledge what I don’t know and to seek out knowledge. Lead me in the way that I should go.

Help me find good teachers and mentors to learn from because I know whoever loves reproof is honored. Give me a humble heart. A heart that thirsts after knowledge and instruction. I will not be my own worst enemy and ignorance will not hold me back. Thank you for your many blessings.”

Wrapping up Prayers for Small Business Owners: Prayer Points to Empower You

Praying should be a pretty simple thing to do but it’s often hard to know what to pray for or to find the right words.

A Christian business owner who desires to do the will of God must be rooted and grounded in his word. Constant fellowship with God is the only way to grow and know his will. That means praying isn’t optional or something you do sporadically. It should be part and parcel of your life and business.

Hopefully, the prayer points in this post will inspire you and motivate you to lead a life of prayer. Center your business on God’s word. He has promised he will never leave you nor forsake you. You can count on him.

Keep praying and believing.
