What to do if you have been praying for your business to prosper without any result

I am yet to meet a business owner who doesn’t want their business to prosper. However, things don’t always go as planned, and that’s where prayer comes in. As Christians, we are supposed to pray without ceasing, but there are times when we have to pray for a specific need.

Praying for your business to prosper is one of the most common needs Christian entrepreneurs have prayed for (or still praying for). It’s pretty disheartening when you pour your heart and soul into your business and you fail to experience business growth.

So if you’re struggling to build a prosperous business, it’s time to get serious and start praying for financial breakthrough in your business. However, there are times when just praying isn’t enough, that’s why I want to talk about some ways to make your prayer for business growth more effective.

If you’re at your wits end and ready to see your business prosper, here are some things you can do to ensure your prayers are more effective:

Prayer for Business to Prosper: How to Make Your Prayer More Effective

1. GET HONEST WITH YOURSELF AND GOD

“Who can discern his own errors? Cleanse me from my hidden faults.” (Psalm 19:12)

There have been times in my life when I prayed for something, but the answer I was looking for never came until I made some changes. Don’t get me wrong. You can’t manipulate God or earn his mercy or blessing. It’s a free gift. However, there are some things you can do to make a case for yourself when it feels like help isn’t coming.

One of the things I do when it feels like God has forgotten me is to get honest with myself and God. When I say get honest, I mean look into my heart to see if I am walking in the truth, or if there’s sin in my heart or life that I have been ignoring.

It’ easy to make requests and expect an answer, what’s not so easy to do is to accept that you may be the reason your prayer isn’t been answered. God is a God of mercy, and he can pour down his blessing even with your shortcomings, but I always like to get right with God first.

So get honest with yourself. Have you been faithful in your business? Do you run your business with biblical principles? Are you diligent and consistent in your business?

Asking these questions will force you to look into your heart and scrutinize your habits. Perhaps, you may need to make some changes to the way you operate your business before you see any growth.

Getting honest with yourself is an opportunity to identify things that are off in your business. This simple action can make your prayer for business growth more effective.

Here are two of my favorite Bible verses to pray when I am doing some soul searching.

” Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts!” (Psalm 139: 23)

“Let us examine and test our ways, and turn back to the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:40)

2. WALK IN OBEDIENCE AND TRUTH

“Let God weigh me with honest scales, and He will know my integrity.” (Job 31:6)

Unfortunately, far too many Christians think they can do what they like, or live the way they want without any repercussion, but that’s a foolish way to think. As a Christian business owner, how you run your business matters whether you like it or not.

One thing I have discovered in my walk with God is that I am typically very bold when I have been obedient and walking in the truth.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mean the self-righteous kind of boldness, but the boldness that comes from knowing God rewards faithfulness. I am talking about the kind of boldness that comes from praying God’s word back to him and reminding him of his promises.

So before you start petitioning God for your business, before you start that prayer for your business to prosper, take a minute to ponder if you’re walking in obedience.

One way to walk in obedience is to run your business with biblical entrepreneurship principles. Running your business God’s way simply means that the Bible is the foundation of your business.

Sadly, far too many Christian entrepreneurs treat their business as something completely separate from their Christian life. You can’t do that and walk in obedience. A Christian business owner should integrate their faith and business, and don’t set aside Christian principles when they are at work.

There’s peace of mind and assurance that comes with obeying God and doing his will. God has no problem blessing your business, but the question is, can God trust you with more? Are you faithful over the little he’s entrusted to you?

Remember Luke 16:10 “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.”

3. BE DILIGENT

“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.” (Proverbs 14:4)

What does diligence have to do with praying for your business to prosper? A lot!

The Bible is full of promises for the diligent, so doesn’t it make sense that diligence is a requirement for prosperity? Yes, I know it’s possible to toil and not be prosperous because ultimately “it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.” (Romans 9:16)

However, that doesn’t negate the need for you to work hard on your business. When you’re diligent, then it totally makes sense if you expect your business to grow and prosper. But, can you really demand prosperity when you haven’t laid the groundwork for your business to prosper?

Can you honestly say “God, I have done everything I am supposed to, yet my business is struggling? Please help me and bless the labor of my hands?”

If you can’t say that confidently, then maybe your problem isn’t God’s blessing, but your work ethic. And if that’s the case, you’ve got to work on it first, if you want your prayer for financial breakthrough in business to be more effective.

There are lots of prayer points for business prosperity you can pray, but many Christians tend to ignore this one: the power to get wealth. In other words, the ability to be diligent and skilled in your business.

A prayer for business to prosper can be approached from different angles so don’t just focus only on the “miraculous,” but also on the practical things.

Here are some of my favorite scriptures on diligence. You can pray them over your life if you struggle with being diligent.

“A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” (Proverbs 10:4)

“The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.” (Proverbs 12:24)

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” (Colossians 3:23)

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” (Proverbs 21:5)

“And every work that he undertook in the service of the house of God and in accordance with the law and the commandments, seeking his God, he did with all his heart, and prospered.” (2 Chronicles 31:21)

4. BE WILLING TO CHANGE

One of the things you can do to make your prayer for business breakthrough more effective is a willingness to change direction. Your business isn’t going to prosper if you keep doing the same things that aren’t working.

A prayer for business to prosper is another way of saying “what I have been doing so far isn’t getting the results I desire, so I need you to step in.” God may choose to answer your prayers by getting you to change a few things in your business or to change direction.

For your prayer to be more effective, you have to be willing to accept that the answer to your prayer may not come in the form or manner you expect or wish. That’s why when you pray, you should have an open mind.

Don’t try to pigeonhole God, or demand he answers your prayer in a certain way or at a certain time. Let him answer you when and how he pleases. Your part is to be open, obedient, and willing to change if necessary.

5. BELIEVE YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU DESERVE

“I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.” (Jeremiah 17:10)

When you come before God in prayer, you should come in faith, trusting that God will fulfill his promises and everything that concerns you. In the verse above, God said he will give every man according to the fruit of his deeds.

Have you been working on your business and following biblical business principles? Then, you can come boldly to God and ask him to reward you according to your deeds. In this instance, the reward is for your business to prosper.

As a Christian, you have to be bold when it comes to praying God’s word back to him and asking him to fulfill his promise. In Hebrews 11:6, we are told that without faith it’s impossible to please God, and he rewards those who seek him. That’s why you need to be bold in prayer.

Your prayer for business to prosper should be grounded in faith and not doubt. A powerful prayer for business prosperity is one that’s rooted in God’s word and nothing else.

So immerse yourself in his word, know what his promises are for you and your business, believe you will get what you deserve, then take it to God in prayer. This is how you make your prayer for breakthrough in business more effective.

6. A PRAYER FOR BUSINESS TO PROSPER REQUIRES PATIENCE

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Don’t let impatience rob you of your blessing or cause you to do things that are against the will of God. I know how tempting it can be to force the issue when it seems like God is taking too long. However, remember that God’s timing is perfect and he’s never late, so keep holding on.

Patience is a virtue, and if you really believe God answers prayers, then you must wait for his timing.

This doesn’t mean you are going to sit idle until you receive an answer. No, not at all. You’re going to keep working, doing everything you know while waiting on the Lord. There’s no room for idleness when you’re trying to build a successful business.

The Bible says in Proverbs 19: 2 “Desire without knowledge is not good, and whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way.” What this means is that even though you have prayed for your business to prosper, continue to learn everything about how to build a prosperous business.

Don’t be hasty to get riches, but be diligent because you know that in all labor there’s profit. This should encourage and reassure you of God’s goodness.

So take a good look at your life and business. Put your house in order, prepare yourself for abundance, then make your voice heard through prayer and supplication. Be patient and wait on God, he’s going to show up in good time.
