How do you pray for your business when it feels like you are not getting through?
Whether it’s a prayer for a struggling business, a business dedication prayer, or prayers for business growth, knowing how to pray for your business is the key to getting an answer.
The life of a Christian should be one of prayer, but many of us don’t remember to pray until something goes wrong in our life or we need a miracle from God. There’s nothing wrong with seeking God when you’re in trouble, but a better way is to seek him at all times whether or not your business is doing well.
Entrepreneurship is an act of faith, and as a Christian business owner, it’s a good idea to connect yourself with the author and finisher of your faith as often as you can (preferably daily). So how do you pray for your business especially when you feel you’re not being heard?
That’s what we are going to look at in this post. Some keys you can use to unlock God’s blessing for your business. Here are a few things that have worked for me.

How to Pray for Your Business: 6 Keys to Unlocking God’s Blessing
1. BE SPECIFIC
“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.” (Matthew 6:7)
Have you ever spent time praying and at the end of it all you couldn’t really remember what you just prayed about? I have done that a lot of times and it’s an easy trap to fall into.
This usually happens when I am distracted, don’t know what to pray about, or I don’t really believe my prayer will be heard or answered. So I just end up waffling, saying meaningless words just for the sake of it.
Contrast this to when I am focused and full of faith. I am way more specific. I go straight to the point because I know what I need and I believe that God hears me when I call. So if you think you are not being heard when you pray, the problem could be you are not specific enough.
The best way to pray for your business is to make specific requests. You don’t need a lot of words to do that. For example, if you need more customers, just pray for more customers. If you need more sales for your business, ask God to customers that will actually buy from you and not just make inquiries.
Praying for a specific need for your business is a powerful way to get God’s attention and to keep your mind and heart focused. So try it the next time you come to God in prayer.
2. COME IN FAITH
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” (Matthew 21:22)
A lot has been said and written about faith. What it is and how it works.
The Bible says in Romans 10:17 that faith comes by hearing the word of God, which means you can’t have faith without the word of God. Belief or confidence that’s based on anything outside the word of God isn’t faith. So when you come before God, make sure you’re standing on his word and nothing else.
You can’t know the word of God or have faith unless you read the Bible. That’s the only true source of his words. So if you want to know how to pray for your business, start by studying God’s word. What does God say about you and your business?
When you know God’s word concerning you and your business, then and only then can you come to him in faith. Faith can only rise from knowing God’s word. If you know his word says “whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive,” then you can come boldly. You will no longer question if he’s going to hear your prayers.
If you have been neglecting the study of God’s word, now is the time to change that habit. Make time each day to read the Bible. Read it because you love God and want to know more about him. Also, read it, to build your faith so you can come in faith when you pray. This is how you pray effectively for your business.
3. BE SINCERE
“You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions.” (James 4:3)
“The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” (Psalm 145:18)
The Bible says that God is not mocked, so when you come before him in prayer, come with a humble and sincere heart.
A sincere prayer is one that is grounded in truth and nothing else. Don’t come to God half-heartedly and think you have done your part. When you come in prayer, come with an outpouring of love and worship for your maker.
Don’t lie or be vague about your request. Be earnest and truthful. If there’s sin in your life or heart that’s stopping you from being sincere, start by asking for forgiveness. Avoid making excuses or rationalizing your mistakes. Yes, God knows your heart and he knows what you need, but you still have to tell him. Make your desires known to him as clearly as you can.
I am not always sincere when I pray especially when I am conflicted or asking for things I know I shouldn’t ask for. This is when I tend to be vague and insincere. When I am open and authentic, I feel free to talk to God. I become more transparent and can freely say or ask for what I need.
So learn to pray with sincerity when you pray for your business. God cares more about your heart than anything else, so come before him with a clean heart so you can be transparent in prayer.
4. SEEK HIM OFTEN
“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” (1 Chronicles 16:11)
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
It would be nice if we could just pray once and never have to pray again, am I right? Nah, you can’t have a relationship with God without prayer.
Imagine this, you have a friend who never calls you or talks to you unless they need something. I bet you wouldn’t be thrilled with that friend. Sadly, that’s how some of you relate to God. The only time, you think about him is when you need to pray for your struggling business.
But there’s a better way, and that’s to pray without ceasing. From the moment you think of starting a business and while running your business, prayer should be a central theme in your business.
There’s so much to pray about when you are a business owner. You need daily wisdom to make decisions and run your business with godly principles. Also, you need grace and boldness that only God can give, that’s why you have to pray continually. Seeking God often is the way to go if you want to build a kingdom business.
If God is truly the owner of your business, you must enter into a relationship or partnership with him, which means communing with him about everything that concerns your business.
Just like you can’t ignore your business partner or go weeks without talking to them, you can’t ignore God in your business and think you have a relationship with him.
Seeking God often is how you pray for your bsuiness in good or bad times.
As a Christian entrepreneur, praying should be one of your daily habits no matter how busy you are. Praying keeps you focused and grounded in truth. It’s also an act of worship. So if you are not in the habit of praying, try to change that. Make time in your day to seek God’s face (if possible before you start your day).
My best days are the days I spend time with God in the mornings. It makes me feel less anxious and more at peace, so give it a try!

5. BE OPEN MINDED AND WILLING TO ACCEPT GOD’S ANSWER
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11)
Don’t laugh, but some years ago when I was in a financial crisis, I actually prayed to God to let me win the lottery. I want to think I am not the only Christian who has done that because it makes me cringe to think about it. I never won the lottery, but God delivered me in his own way.
When you pray, you have to be open-minded and willing to accept God’s answer. God may not answer your prayer the way you want but be rest assured that he won’t give you stone if you ask for bread.
As humans, we have limitations and no way of telling what the future holds, so we must trust God to give us exactly what we need when we need it because he knows all things.
When you pray for your business, come with a heart that’s ready to receive what God thinks is the best thing for you. For example, let’s say you need a business loan to expand your business, but you are having a hard time getting a loan from a bank. Maybe instead of a loan, God gives you a business partner that’s willing to invest in your business.
While you may not want a business partner, perhaps that’s a better option than getting a loan. Note it doesn’t have to be something big or serious like the example above. It could be small things, but my point is, God knows best and you must trust him to answer your prayer anyway he wants.
6. YOU NEED PATIENCE
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)
There are times when it felt like I had hardly finished praying before I got an answer to my prayer, and times when it felt like years before I got my breakthrough.
I have been guilty of trying to rush God including using “fleeces” and all manner of tricks to make decisions. I did this because I felt God wasn’t moving fast enough. However, the only thing that happened when I tried to make important decisions with fleeces is, I got fleeced!
When you pray, you should be willing to wait for an answer. Now, don’t get me wrong. Praying isn’t an excuse for inaction or procrastination, so if you need to act or respond to an urgent matter, then you need to do just that.
But generally speaking, you need to be patient after praying. Wait for God to respond. He’s faithful and he has promised he’d answer when you call on him. So no need to fret or be impatient.
On your part, stay faithful, keep reminding him of his promises, and continue to run your business to the best of your ability.
